 Christmas Celebrations

Christmas Celebrations

We started early with the art work.

And we made Christmas Cards in our reading clinic unit.

At last the big day came – the day of our Christmas party.

Everyone was dressed up for the party.

There was music.

  And dancing…

This was a special traditional dance.

We used puppets and drama for our nativity play.

We can’t have a Christmas Party without a Fashion Parade!

Family members joined in the musical chairs fun

.

And helped with the cake cutting too.

At last Father Christmas arrived!!

With gifts for everyone.

Afterwards everyone danced with Father Christmas. Then we all enjoyed the delicious food that our parents brought for the party

 October 1st Independence Day Celebration

October 1st Independence Day Celebration

Open Doors students celebrated Nigeria’s 50th Year of independence. The students made lots of green white green flags and we had a grand ceremony on our field.

Birthdays, Birthdays, Birthdays

Birthdays are always special at Open Doors. Here are some recent ones.

Sendforths

Open Doors is blessed with dedicated volunteers who come from different parts of the world to share love and skills. But it is always sad when we have to say goodbye. Here are some recent send forth parties we’ve given to say thank you and farewell.

Aunty Young Lee is in the centre with a red head tie. She is a missionary from Korea and left to serve in the Philippines after year of dedicated service to Open Doors.

Here she is surrounded by children and staff members.

Here children are singing a farewell song to Aunty Brenda who recently returned to UK. She shared her special skills with Open Doors for four months, especially with early intervention classes and speech therapy.

 Special Olympics National Competition

We are always full of actives at Open Doors. Here are some things that have been happening the last few months.

Special Olympics National Competition

Last September some of our Open Doors athletes took part in the National Special Olympics competition in Lagos. Here they are as they prepared to leave for the airport. They were especially excited as this was the first year the athletes and coaches travelled by air.

Here they are on their return to Jos with lots of smiles , new t-shirts and their medals.

Our Open Doors PTA held a special award ceremony for our athletes so the parents could present the medals personally.

Here are some of our athletes and their proud parents.

This is Witani with her father.

Witani has a Gold medal and will be part of the Nigerian contingent to  the World Games in Greece next year. She is a champion table tennis player.

Open Doors Children Need Sponsorship - Your Help Needed!

At Open Doors we believe every child who needs special education should be given admission regardless of the ability of their parents to pay their fees. So we admit such children, trusting that kind-hearted individuals will help sponsor them. We have a problem now because our 2nd term (May –August 2010) is almost over and these children have not yet received sponsorship. Here are the children. Can you help them?

The fees are not the same for each child depending on whether they also have speech therapy, physiotherapy or vocational training. Some of them of have already had part of their fees paid so the amount shown reflects this

How to pay the fees:

In Nigeria, their fees can be paid through our bank account:

Zenith Bank PLC, Jos.  Open Doors for Special Learners.  Account number: 6013302132

The easiest way we receive donations from outside Nigeria is through Western Union.   Please contact me at joanneumolu@yahoo.com to make arrangements.

Here are our children who need help:

Childrens Day and 3rd Annual Family Fun Fair, 27 May, 2010

On May 27th  we celebrated Children’s Day with our 3rd Annual Family Fun Fair. Since schools are closed on that day, many brothers and sisters joined the fun and games along with Open Doors children. Everyone had lots to eat and drink thanks to our wonderful parents, The day ended with a soccer match between Open Doors United and Open Doors PTA.

Our children had made masks for everyone to wear and that made it especially fun.

The horse was great fun. .

Egg and spoon race was fun too. They could eat it afterwards.

Fun under the parachute.                                The Obstacle Course Race.
